I think clearly our B9's S4/5 (and most likely the SQ5) require VW 508.00.

We know Castrol make this, it is pretty green, etc.

Just to throw another option in there is Mobil 1 :

Mobil 1™ ESP x2 0W-20, pretty green as well, Walmart has it.

In the olden dino days there were superstitions about mixing one brand of oil with the same viscosity with another. Are there similar superstitions here or is any 508.00 as good as any other 508.00 and you can top off without worry if needed?

Mobil 1? ESP x2 0W-20
I wouldn't have any issue using a VW 508 oil from Mobil or Valvoline or Castrol or fill in the blank.

In a pinch, I would mix them if the alternative was to be too low for safety and/or to prevent possible engine damage.

Ideally, I would go with the same mfgr, however.

They don't even have the correct info on the AofA website (yet). The PDF dated 2/23/2017 seems wrong, so this is really bigger than the service department at the dealership in my opinion.

Addendum:

I've contacted AofA on this issue. We'll see how that goes. Per the sticker on my car, I even checked the AudiCanada website. They don't even have MY 2018 maintenance info posted there yet.

There you go!! Thanks for validating that. We all appreciate it.

All I can say is "good luck" when trying to get the oil changed with the correct oil

Are you certain about that? I can find no evidence of this oil on Mobil 1's USA website.

(Mobil sells multiple 0W20 oils in the USA.)

Oh man, the Mobil, exxon/Mobil site is all over the place, and only lists one "2018" vehicle manufacturer - Chevrolet.

Yes, of course there are many 0W20 viscocities sold by Mobil in the USA.

This is from march 2017 - so, out of date, and yes, there are no VW 508s listed, but, they don't even list the ESP X2, just the ESP X1:

https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us...pecs-guide.pdf

This reminds me of the olden days in auto parts stores where there was giant cross reference book for air filters so you could by Fram, Purolator, WIX, or whatever.

I am sure that Walmart sells Mobil 1™ ESP x2 0W-20, and it is green, etc. We can believe that this is a labeling issue as the back of the bottle does not list VW 508 OR we can strike it out as not passing this cert. In other countries this exact name Mobil 1™ ESP x2 0W-20 does show as VW 508 certified.

When people ask me which tequila is best for a margarita I tell them unless the label says "100% agave" it's not Tequila but a mixto.

Standing down till Mobil updates the label and their website.

No.

Honestly, I don't believe the oil is available for sale anywhere except the dealer in the USA.

I would look to ECS, Blauparts and possible AVLubes to be out on the leading edge of getting this low-friction oil imported to the USA. From what I can see, a lot of cars will require it including the 2.0T at VW and Audi.
