The hub nose on the S4 has a reverse taper that requires the ring to sit in the correct plane to engage the major diameter of the hub. If you attempt to install the rings on the hub separate from the wheels, they may seem too large because they aren't sitting in the correct location. That's why we are seeing a small (~0.5mm difference). So the 444 rings should work as long as you are installing them with the rings in the wheels and not separate from the wheels. That's what ensures that they sit in the right position, apparently. I feel comfortable with that answer, and intend to swap my wheels tonight using this method.

JLoft: To answer your question, I have the SX wheels, and BBS this morning confirmed exactly what you are saying. The 444s are for the SR and SX, whereas the 607s are recommended for others.
Agreed. I spoke to BBS evidently just hours after you. The guy I spoke with was great and was already aware that you probably got the wrong answer. But just to be certain he's going to get parts today and verify it.

However, I had a revelation this morning. I put on the wheel WITHOUT any centering ring at all. And guess what - the bore of the SR wheel (and SX too I guess) is 66.5mm. So it fit on perfectly and tightly. In our Audi case the hub ring just fills the gap in the wheel. For me, it's situation resolved.

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to verify on your end. I think this is resolved, too. Sorry for the confusion, everyone!

And that is interesting that the wheel bore is 66.5mm sans the rings. Just further evidence that these wheels are a great fit!

As a coda to this story, I installed my BBS SXs last night and they fit great. I'm running them with Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires for the winter. I did the swap just in time, too, as it looks like Colorado is about to be hit with a cold spell. We're already dipping below 30 in the evenings, and daytime 40s are right around the corner.

Did you wind up using the centering rings? Also, what length/type of bolts did you use? I ordered a crystal black set from ECS for my car that's due to be completed in January.

I used the 09.23.444 centering rings (66.5 mm ID). I don't know the bolt type/length. I used the bolts that TireRack included, and did not take a good look at them before installing.

Had my BBS SX and Michelin x-ice installed today and they fit perfectly with all the proper bolts and rings from Tirerack.

Hello Everyone and greetings from Hungary!

This is my first post here, but I have been reading the forums for a long time.

I recently bought an A5 Sportback 3.0 TDI (2014) and since winter is coming, it was time to buy some winter wheels + tires. I bought a set of AEZ Crest Dark wheels (18") and I checked their site which wheel + tire combination is recommended for my A5. It says either 225/45R18 or 235/40R18, I chose 235/40 (Dunlop Winter Sport 5). I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to tires but I noticed that this exact tire size is not among the recommended tire sizes on my door sticker (the closest is 245/40R18 but I wanted slimmer tires for the winter anyways), so I would like to know if I made a bad decision with choosing different tires, will it screw up anything etc.? I love how the car drives with the Dunlop WS5, I just wanted to make sure everything will be fine this way and I would appreciate it very much if anyone could provide some help. Thanks!

Anyone running 245/35R-19 MICHELIN PILOT ALPIN PA4 XL? I just ordered a set from tirerack, planning to put them on the stock 19" BO wheels. Curious if there's any perceptible changes in handling and/or ride comfort.
