Would you trade up? B9 A4 for S4....
So I seem to always want more. Such is life. Lately I've had the car itch.
As you can see from my signature, I've currently got a 2018 A4, had for just about a year. Loaded. Prestige, cold weather, ventilated seats, I've had the calipers powdercoated, paint protection, spoiler, and APR tune done.
But now that one year lease pre-owned S4s are coming in, I started to look. And I can get into one within my budget.
I will say that most of my miles are daily commute to/from NYC, so not a ton of spirited driving, but the DAP is a must.
So the two S4's I've found...one is white with magma red, the other is tango red with black.
Thoughts? Worth the switch?

An apr stage 1 b9 a4 is faster than a stock b9 s4 and they haven't cracked the b9 s4's ecu yet, so no tunes available. you'll be slower for a little while at least, but the b9 s4 is such a great car.

You've dumped a lot of money into your A4. Why not wait until the B9.5 S4 refresh in 2021 or whenever it will be? At least pick up some new interior accouterments; if you make this change now you're effectively paying $25,000+ for 2 more cylinders and, after the tune you have, very little add'l horsepower. And the same interior save for maybe some more suportive seats...hard pass on that investment.
If you were coming from a Honda then absolutely, but you already own 80% of an S4 today. That's a lot of money to pay for the last mile.

Is it really faster? Stock B9 S4 is 0-60 in 4.4 and qtr mile at 12.7/12.8. Is the APR tuned A4 faster than those numbers?

I don’t think so. A stage 1 APR tuned car would do 0-60 in around 4.6s and 1/4th in 13.x. I haven’t ever been in or seen an APR tuned A4 but I’m pretty sure it isn’t faster than an S4 with 354bhp (stage 1 APR A4 makes less than 340bhp so yea).

Also would like to add that im sure the OP isnt gonna be hitting track days with his car, as he said he mostly commutes to work. Both cars are sleepers in their own respect, especially an APR tuned A4

A4 is a little light up front due to having a smaller engine, plus the DCT shifts faster and smother than the S4 8 Speed. I had an A4 loaner when my S4 was getting service, and even stock the car surprised me with how it handled. Power was too its no slouch. Im sure with an APR tune it will keep up with an S4 if not even surpass it slightly. Personally id just stick with the A4 you have and wait till they make some new updates to the model line

APR tunes are amazing, and the + versions even cary a full warranty. I stuck with a TT, saved all the money for the S version and did an APR tune and WOW! I can't recommend it enough. Your expensive Prestige trim is going to have some pretty massive depreciation after one year, probably so much it will cost more in total ownership cost than if you had just got an S4 in the first place. It's your call if you think the S4 is exciting enough for you to drop that much cash to upgrade, but I'd not do it personally. If you want a faster car, just grab a quality tune and keep the car that you love now.
