Default "misfire" problems.....

I keep getting check engine lights due to continuous cyl's 4 & 6 "misfires". The thing is, this only happens right after start-up when the car is cold. After warming, the misfires disappear. I've watched this on a friends VAG-COM. Dealer has yet to find a solultion. Any ideas? Thanks for any info.

coilpack, misgapped plugs, or plugs too cold in range.

Default It has happened to several S4 owners. Rick had Audi buy his car back

they could not discover the cause. Also replace the sensor on the flywheel inaddition the the ones Edward listed.

It is a problem you should esculate.

Default Have them check the valves for leaks

May have to replace the cylinder head.

Default Have you seen this happen before?

That actually makes sense to me. I appreciate your input. I have gotten so many suggestions from so many people. Since there are so many potential fixes for the same "problem", I am fearing that they won't be able to actually fix it. As soon as my light comes on again, I'll be taking my car in and I'll suggest everything that you guys have mentioned on this thread.

How far did they go in trying to solve the problem? Replacing the car seems so drastic....

Yeah, these seem super-obvious. They tell me that they checked these out, but who knows...

Default Yes, it happened to me.

My car was in the shop for 10 days straight with only 700 miles on it. I had a really rough idle and a check engine light. They eventually figured out that it was a leaking intake valve and had to replace the cylinder head.

Default I can't feel the misfires....

And the car only "misfires" when cold at idle (right after start-up). Do you think it sounds similar?

Thanks!

Steve
