!#$!?% Oil Filter!

!#$!?% Oil Filter!
I bought an oil filter for my baby yesterday, and tried to change my oil last night. The new filter (a Fram #2518) was several inches longer than the Audi original and wouldn't fit! I called several other part stores, and they ALL had the Fram 2518 or its equivalent listed for the S4. What's up with this? Has anyone else run into this problem? I had to change the oil without a clean filter, and my baby deserves better. This is like taking a shower and putting on dirty underwear.

I wonder if....
Did they say it was for the NEW S4? Maybe that's for the earlier S4.
Also, I know that the German filters for VW / Audi have some kind of valve in them to keep more oil in the head.
Found that it was true, to some extent, just last month on an older Golf. Lifters were ticking. Switched from a Napa / Fram filter to a dealer filter. Lifters stopped ticking.
Might want to stick with the OEM filter.

Good questions
Is that the same fram p/n as for the 30-valve V-6? Should be. If not, you have an elongated fram p2870a (rabbit filter) - the one for the turbo 20V I-5 engine. however, that filter is much smaller in diameter than the V-6 filter ....
Yes, confirmed, the Mahle and Bosch filters have anti-backflow valves in them, AND are speced to take the higher pressure of unregulated audi/VW systems (7+ bar not uncommon).
All that said, my 4kq ran forever on fram rabbit filters.

Re: !#$!?% Oil Filter!
As of three weeks ago, no company on the market has an aftermarket oil filter yet. The first should appear, ironically, at your local Wal-Mart. I'd check there first. And for OEM or aftermarket, the aftermarkets are as good or not better. The law says they have to make an oil filter as good or better. Pennzoil will repair or replace anything on your car if the filter is the cause.
