Default Re: You're using a Fram filter?!?!?!?!

In the news business you have to state your sources to be taken seriously. In the scientific/engineering world you have to state your theory and your procedure (methods, equipment, etc.) for disproving/not disproving this theory for anyone to even take note. All of you who responded may or may not be correct in what you say but for those of us who look upon all things with a critical eye please try to back up your position so we can objectively evaluate.

Default Long, albeit uncommon, history of failures in I5 engines

Lots of reports of blown filters, often from racers, in I5 turbo engines.
Lack of anti-backflow valve alone is significant, since it slows oil pumping to bearings.
Mann cost $3 mail order for the wabbit. 'nuff for me.

Like I said, every parts catalog listed this filter as a replacement for 2000 Audi S4 - I even called JiffyLube and they had the same filter listed in their computer. This is also the same filter listed for the 30V 2.8 engine, but the clearance is tighter in an S4. The point is, there are errors in the parts manuals so S4 owners need to be wary.

I wasn't trying to "cheap out" on the oil filter; I had very little time to spend, and the neighborhood auto parts store is much closer than the Audi dealership. So I've learned a lesson about time management. "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get." I won't make that mistake again.
