0-60 & 0-100 Tip Timed Runs
Its been a while since anybody did Tip runs. So I got out VWTool, went to the instrument module, data block 001. Gives road speed, RPM, oil pressure check and time. I looked at the other 3rd and 6th gear runs and such but I don't think they compare very well due to gearing, etc...
Conditions were 69 degrees, cloudy, fully warmed water temp and oil temp about 200. Flat road, fairly new smooth pavement, 5-10 MPH headwind. Elevation is about 900'. I left the Tip in auto mode for these initial runs. I power braked to about 2400 rpm before letting go. The shift from 1st to 2nd came at 6760 rpm. Later runs I will try manual shifting a little earlier. And then repeat with the stock engine chip.
VWTool missed 60 exactly but I got 57 mph @ 5.28 sec and 61 @ 5.72 sec. Figures out to:
0-60 mph - 5.61 sec.
Same thing with 0-100. 14.06 to 101 mph and 13.91 to 98 mph. Comes to:
0-100 mph - 13.91 sec.
My mods are listed in the registry. If you want to see the data file email me. You gotta have VWTool or somethig that will display the .dat file.
Not anyting to scream hooray about but just decent times for an automatic. Mostly it was just fun doin' it.
David

Good data. And the only other S4 I have driven so I can confirm by seat of pants feel. We can get together and develop comparison between 6-speed and auto. More sources for good data the better.

I wonder if the panel is "high" like the car speedo? (m)
I've been using the engine ECU, data block 5, and am almost POSITIVE that it understates speed. When I did the 1/4 mile at the drag strip, I had a 95+ trap time, but never got more than 93 from the ECU.
It would be interesting to set the cruise control and change between the two measuring points!

Have you found this true with other S4s?
Was the 95+ your speedo or the time slip?
I couldn't read the data and the speedo at the same time.
That'd be cool if its 2 mph slow. but then the times would correct to the very low 5's. If that's true then maybe there is really an advantage to "you don't have to lift to shift"!
Thats a good test to try and see if the data is consisitent. I'll try it. I want to verify that the road speed data is accurate. 2 mph isn't too good, 1 would be better.
Don't know what else to check it against. Ideas?
David

.5 is about right for the Tip vs. 6 sp.
I power braked because the 6 speed guys get to launch with 5000 rpm. Now if we could do that too...
Probably add about .5 sec to those numbers for a stomp at idle to 60 mph run.
David

Time slip vs ECU data block 5.
There are many comments about inaccuracy. Your times were so good that I suspect the instrument panel may read high, mine were so bad that I'm pretty sure the engine ECU reads low. (and at least that part is backed up by the timers at Texas Motorplex).
