Default 1/4 mile time for new M3

I read some misinformed person below stating that the new M3 will break the 14 second barrier for the 1/4 mile. I hate to burst your bubble but I own a bone stock Euro M3 down under & it turns 13.3 1/4 miles all day long. (Don't take my word for it ... Consult any European magazine for specs on the Euro M3) I've even seen a stock Euro M3 do 13.1 in good conditions (with street tyres). There's even been an M3 LTW (Lightweight) that has done it in 12.9.

Now officially the new M3 is going to be 0.3 seconds quicker than the old Euro M3 to 60 mph & above those speeds, with better aerodynamics, a few more horses, & a higher redline you don't expect the the new M3 to lose that advantage to the old Euro. We could well see the M3 breaking the 13 second barrier, stock, or come pretty close.

"Weight" I hear you say. Well the new M3 has an aluminium hood & aluminium in a few other spots. Also, its peculiar that the E46 328i is 0.1 second quicker than the lighter E36 328i to 60mph even though it weighs more, has the same torque & has only 3 more hp.

Well, the new M3 might be quicker than a stock S4, or even a chipped S4 but in turn the Z06 Corvette will be quicker than the E46 M3 & in turn the 996TT is quicker than the Corvette & in turn ... Does it matter that a car is going to be quicker that yours?

Before I get flamed, please remember that I owned an S4 for a year & only sold it recently because my wife wanted a roadster.

Default so the M3 is faster than the S4

It really doesn't matter, it is supposed to be faster if it lighter and has more horses. when it comes to lousy conditions, then the S4 might actually have a shot at beating the new M3. I love my S4 and also love the performance of the M3. The M3 has a deeper history than the S4 so give it a few years for Audi to beat BMW.

Default Who cares about 1/4 miles... I would love to drive any car with 330HP and 8000RPM's. (more)

I am sure that the new M3 is going to be a great overall performer. I also like the way it looks inside and outside... Having said that, we all have to wait and see how the car feels once we get a chance to drive it.

Not a fair comparison, but it seems like BMW is going the same road with Integra-GSR with their engine. They are rasing the RPM's to increase HP. That is great when you feel like driving the hell out of the car. Sounds cool and makes you feel like you are driving a race car (probably one of the reasons why M3 drivers reck more than any other sports car drivers and have higher insurance rates) But in everyday driving it bothers me (and probably most of us) having to rev the hell out of the car to get to the power band.

S4 puts its power down to the road on a much more stealthy fashion - much better to my liking. When I make the decision to trade off comfort for HP and sound, I think that I will skip the performace increases that an M3 offers and go to the next level (what ever that level might be - The new corvette perhaps... They are also supposed to come out with a lightweight version of C06; with improved suspension and body dynamics - kind of like a a Porche GT3. Now if that is under 50k you can bet your *** that I will be seling my S$)

John - Bored and ramling...

When will people realise that BMW's are like models...look great, perform great in perfect settings, but in real life conditions many cars will stay with or outperform them...in areas where one originally thought they would dominate. I've seen it and experienced it time and time again...BMW's getting spanked left and right..on the road and on the track. Nice cars...but their God-like status is FAR from the truth. You want God-like status, then pay homage to the homologized rally-bred road cars...they'll hand M3 driver's their asses in their hands in almost all conditions.
