Anyone else have a weak 1st gear syncro? I know this is a common problem and I don't really want to spend big $$$ to get a rebuilt transmission right now. Is it okay to ride it out like this? Or will it cause some serious damage in the longrun?

Default Could be that your PP isn't fully disengaging when the clutch pedal is depressed. If so, then this

is a problem with the clutch/PP assembly and not the tranny itself. If you are rolling to a stop, can you slip it into 1st from neutral w/o it clunking (about 3 mph @ idle is the rev matched speed)? You just put a slight amount of pressure on the shift lever and when everything is rev matched perfectly, it should just slide into gear with only the slightest pressure. If this works then my guess is your PP is not fully disengaging - best case you slave cylinder needs bleeding/adjustment. Worst case is PP going out.
