Default 2001.5 vs. 2001

Hey all, I am new to Audiworld and the S4 in general. I am looking at a blue S4 and the owner says it's a 2001 and I'm just wondering what is the best way to tell if it is a 2001.5
I have been researching and most have said that the 2001.5 is a better car than the 2001. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks, that was great info!! I have now found out it is a 2001 and it has 125k miles, rides smooth, has power but this is the first S4 I've ever even sat in. What makes it even more difficult for me to buy this (though I want to) is that I live in a small town and nobody knows about Audi's. I think I'm going to play it safe and find one with lower miles and a 2002

Look for one that is already stage 3. If you stay in the online community, you're very likely to decide shortly after buying the car that you want to upgrade it - seriously. Look for a well-maintained stage 3 and go from there. The prices have come down and it'll save you a bundle in the long run. If it's been well-maintained, then high mileage isn't too much of a concern. These cars are 9+ years old afterall, so the low mileage ones are going to be very rare and much more expensive.

2001.5 is different than 2001 in that 2001.5 is a late year build with basically 2002 specs. I don't know if 2002 had any furthr changes....

Yes, there are things fairly obvious besides the badging. Check out the s4wiki.com link I posted and click on Generations

I would not sweat the MY 2001 - 2001.5 - 2002 differences. They're essentially meaningless, at least in terms of looking for a decent condition S4 with reasonable mileage. There are many more important considerations than what MY you get.
