I think an S4 with 100,000miles and a NEW timing belt is better than an S4........
with 65,000 miles that is due for a timing belt.
Firstly, you'll save some money since you don't need to do the belt.
Second, you should be able to buy a car with >100,000miles for a tremendous discount.
You can make that car stage III and end up spending the same amount as you did on the S4 that has 65,000miles that needs a timing belt and has just as likely a chance the turbos will explode than the car with 100,000miles on it.
IMO, once you do the timing belt and put in KO4s, these cars are pretty bullet proof.
That being said, if you do not do some stuff yourself, you will be nickled and dimed to death by a shop for little things.
Do not buy this car if you are on a really tight budget. If you can afford to buy the 100,000mile car and put away some extra $$$ for KO4s, you will have a beast of a car for not much money.

Hmm. . .
The only pics i have of the rear are really crappy, so i'm still not sure.
As soon as i find out i will post
I've read the 2001.5 has better oiling of the turbo, is this why I should find out which?
How much of a difference in turbo failure is there?
Any other key differences?
Thanks
