Default 2002 Owners Waiting for their rides

Did you hear anything from your dealers? Mine is now telling me that they were "Mistaken" when they told us they were shipping "sold" cars, and that we have to wait till mid September. I may seriously consider pulling my deposit as I am now without a car for 3 weeks already, and am not happy with the outlook that I won't get my car for another 6-8 weeks more.

Default A6 2.7T vs. S4 ?

Haven't heard anything either. My dealer still says "sometime in October, maybe September."

I've been thinking about just going with an A6 2.7T. More space in backseat, nicer inside, not a whole lot more than an S4.

How much would I give up in handling?
Would I be kicking myself by October?

Default depends what you want

The A6 won't handle as crisply as the S4, although some suspension tweaks and different wheels/tires would help. As far as the inside, I think the A6 is waaaay nicer. More comfortable for backseat passengers, and more shoulder room up front.

Also consider that there are plenty of A6's sitting on the lot right now, so you should be able to get a well equipped one for not too much more than invoice...

Default I wouldn't do it. I went from a Corvette to an A4 three years ago, it will take me 3 more years

for the bruises to go away (pretty big after you've been kicking yourself for three years). No chance I would ever do that again.

Default There are also plenty of 2001 S4s, so you don't have to wait for one of those either. IT's the new

model year you are waiting for, regardless of whether they are S4s or A6s.

Default I talked with Regional Distribution Mgr on Friday.....

Actually a pretty cool headed guy. Bottom line from him is there is very little chance at all that any cars will be released before Sep 1. ANY cars - sold or not. He is making some calls (including to Houston) on my behalf, but he really doesn't think much will happen.

I gave him the whole customer staisfaction, etc spheel and he agreed on every point. He explained the reasons why the big-wigs did this (as Steve mentioned last week). Just nothing he can do. My dealer is apologizing to me up one side and down the other.

Default I'm willing to wait, since that's all I've done lately. But it still sucks.

I'll have an exhaust, sway bar, euro lights, & rs4 **** all before the actual car.

It's either a 2002, or a 2001 S4, and I think I'll just wait for the one I custom built. Plus, I'll be guaranteed that no customer has been romping around in it bouncing off the rev limiter.

Default Has anyone gotten any kind of firm concessions from the dealer, and what? Don't know whether I ...

should push for something. I didn't get the Nav, but seems stupid now to take a different car of the same combo (Santorin/Onyx) and ask them to throw in the cost of the Nav System. Bottom line, I don't think they'd do it anyway.

Default If there are no changes in the 2001 vs. 2002 S4, why are people...

just not going with the 2001 at a substantial discount? Are the right color/option combinations not available? Just curious.

Default Because techically the car is immediately one model year old, and while you get some discount ...

on a 2001 (although in some places like NY, you won't), the resale value is less because in 3-5 years when you sell the car, because it is a 2001 and not a 2002 (i.e., it is one year older).
