But, there is no longer an "official" 5k service on the 2002 S4's.....
...some folks have had to pay out of their pockets if they wanted that service, while other dealers have covered it.

No. But this will vary from what I learned (more)....
I also have the 2002 maint manual in my car that has the 5K service listed. But Audi will not pay the dealer no matter what. My dealer was cool and picked it up at their own cost. If your manual says 10K, then you won't have any chance of getting it free.
The service manager called AoA and they basically told him he should tell customers that the 5K was a misprint, then "replace" the maint manual with a "corrected" one and send them on their way. Some way to treat a customer that just spent $40K.

Yea, they pop'd it on me that it wasnt covered...
How many 2002 s4's were produced - bout 400 or so i think. Now how many got the wrong manual. If customer satisfaction were so important to audi, i would think there should never even have been a discussion of charging for this service.
It has nothing to do with the cost - Im not gonna sweat 60 bucks, but I hate feeling like i am being taken advantage of...

Made a HUGE stink. Told them that it was in my manual, which it was. They showed me that the
manual was recalled and the new one deleted the service. I explained, other than my wife being an attorney and that I'd sue the **** out of them, they can't sell me something with a warranty that says "2002" that I used to base my purchase decision on, and then change the warranty after I've purchased it. Here's a link to what they showed me from AOA, clearly not on the up and up.

2002 5K Service interval posting
