my buddy is looking at a 540i 6spd 2000my so i was on bimmer.roadfly.org doing some research for him..in my searches came across this post..

"Stock for each, equal skill:
S4 will get the jump, 540/6 will hang just behind him until 80 then pass the S4, then slowly pull away.. very slowly.

Chipped S4 and chipped 540/6:
S4 will smoke the 540/6 all the way up to 100, then the 540/6 will pass him due to 4 exploding differencials on the S4."

Smoked an E39 540 at high speed? Must have been auto.

and actually, the E34 540i even WITH an auto is dead even with me up top. We ran from 70-135ish, neither pulled more than a couple feet. Damn fast cars.
