Default ????

For those of you with 50k+ miles, what have you had to do to the car aside from regular maintenance? Have these cars been money pits?

Default Re: ????

Aside from turbos and the usual things, what else has been a regular problem.

Im just wondering if these cars are gonna nickel and dime us to death.

Default I think it depends on whether or not you can try to diagnose any problems yourself................

and then fix things yourself.

I have 111,000miles on mine and here some things that have gone wrong:

1. turbos
2. O2 sensors - fixed myself with VW sensors
3. wheel bearing - went to independant shop
4. tie rod end - fixed at independent shop
5. TBB - replaced with bi-pipe (myself)
6. F-hose - replaced with MTM F-pipe (myself)
7. BPVs - replaced with 710Ns (myself)
8. Bad wire from ABS pump to ABS controller (fixed myself - I can't even imagine what a dealer would have charged to diagnose and fix the problem - it cost me $0.39)
9. torn CV boot - fixed at the time of suspension install
10. wear and tear stuff like brake pads/rotors (do that myself - saves tons of money in labor and overpriced OEM parts)
11. other little things fixed myself....

You see, these little things will nickel and dime you to death if you can't try to diagnose and fix them yourself.

Audi charges $180 for an oxygen sensor + labor - you have 4 of them. I've replaced all 4 for a total cost of $100 - big difference.

I've never had an extended warranty.

I like learning how to diagnose and fix things on my car.

If I was the type that wanted to drop the car off at a shop, hace it diagnosed and fixed, I would have spent a lot of money on rental cars and labor.

I don't think I'd own this car out of warranty if I did not at least try to fix some things myself.

Oh, also, my rims are supposed to be here tomorrow, will use the ECS Stage II template to see if your barkes will fit - do you still have them?

Default 57K no problems yet (KNOCK ON WOOD!). I have aftermarket warranty for some peace of mind though.

I know it's not failsafe, but I decided that for myself it was worth it. <$2000 for 100,000 mile exclusionary coverage from Auto Warranty Broker. I take pretty good care of the car and don't track it so hopefully nothing major happens. Little stuff I can do myself, medium stuff with the help of friends. If the turbos blow, hopefully AWB takes care of me and I can go Stage 3. It's an expensive car to maintain in general, but then I again I think most high performance sport sedans are. Even just the synthetic oil is pricey, and of course replacement parts aren't cheap. So it all adds up. But I don't see it as prohibitive, at least at this point.

By the way, I sent you another e-mail.

Default lol I have 45k and I've had just about everything but turbo's replaced.....

The usual list to the letter except turbo's and an F-hose. It's really funny. Write a list of typical problems and there isn't any deviation. MAF, seals, rocking seat, pixels on trip computer etc etc.
