A4 congenital defect questions

A4 congenital defect questions
So I've got an S4 Avant and love it. Now it's my sister's turn for a car, with $20K the target price. Seems like an Audi Assured A4 1.8T might do the job real well.
So then, what congenital defects should a person be aware of? What systems were weak in the '97 and '98 cars? What should an independant mechanic look for? Any comments on the finer points of this Audi Assured hoopla?
Thanx in advance-

But I want *adult* answers :P
I thought about which forum to post this in, and my bottom line was: That forum is totally juvenile, and lots of you guys had A4's before. I'd love to hear from Innovator and others with professional experience.
C'mon Frank, don't sell your S4 brethren short. This board and Steve McNabb's Chevy II page are the best places on the web that I (and others) know for adult answers to intelligent questions (with an occasional dose of HIG.)

Wastegate rods were known to break on 1997 and early 1998 1.8T's.....
...had it happen on mine at the 22,000 mile mark. New turbo unit installed under warranty along with a redesigned turbo oil-line heat shield and a fresh turbo oil-line.
Control arms seem to be a problem with all year A4's as well.
