to A4 or not to A4?

This was my 87 4000Q. Run off the road by a milk truck, frame's bent. Got insurance money, and I have a little more. Now I can either go for a 90 coupe (which my dad has, and i sorta like), a '94-'95 90 Quattro, or i can save all summer and buy a used A4. Suggestions on low-mid nineties quattros to buy, or should I save for the A4 which i've always wanted?

Well if you got an A4 will you be able to afford the higher insurance?
Not trying to damper your spirits. My suggestion would be get something with airbags and ABS. But remember that at the 10yr mark the airbags(SRS) must be rechecked. which could cost a lot of $$ to update/repair. Good luck.

yeah i can find a way...pushing that stuff to the back of my mind seems to work.
Yeah, its just the initial cost thats holding me up. Fixing the 4000 probably cost as much as insuring an A4. though fixing an A4 is a lot more costly, i'd assume.

You can get a '96 A4 for lots less. High miles about $9500. Lower miles about $12K.
Only the 12V 2.8 V6 w/ 172hp was offered in '96. In '97 the 1.8T w/ 150hp was also offered. This has more tuning potential if you like that. You can also get a '97 1.8T for about $12K.
I love my '96 A4. My ex-gf is about to buy it from me. I did have the steering rack go and power steering hose. Both of those were expensive, but that's about it. It currently has 108K miles on it. Those problems also aren't unique to just the '96.
Good luck.
