Default A4 swap to S4

Hey guys I have a 1998 Audi a4 (b5)... could it be converted to a b5 s4? (well just the engine and transmission mainly) Will everything from the s4 fit in the a4?

Thanks

why do you want to do this? cheaper to sell your B5 A4 and buy B5 S4.

Default not too expensive ??

listen to the first reply, way to expensive!! unless you have a wrecked s4 sitting there you have no idea how expensive these cars are! it's more than a motor trans swap, way cheaper and easier to sell a4 n buy a b5 s4. the only thing that will work from your a4 is the shell you would need about everything else and that gets to cost more than buying a b5 s4

Well thats exactly what I have, like 2-3 scrapped s4s because my buddy built his and has tons of extra parts.. This is also ment to be a fun kind of project instead of just buying one.

To get you started:

- Motor with all the surrounding parts but I doubt this would fit. Lots of welding/cutting involved.
- ECU/instrument cluster... probably tons of harnesses would have to be gutted.
- tranny with drive train, probably won't fit either, unless the A4's wheel spacing and mounts are exactly the same as S4s...
- and so on...

I would start by stripping A4 down to a shell around engine/firewall area, remove dashboard and start from there.

Thanks Julex, but you don't think they will fit? Thats my main question... Price and labor aren't a big deal as I will be doing it myself with some friends as I get money for parts.. Anyone else know if the parts will fit?

No, because no one's been crazy enough to try it.

i have a 1996 a4 that was converted. ive done about 10 or more of the swaps your thinking of. 96 a4 2.8, 97 a4 2.8, 98 a4 2.8 , 98 a4 1.8t, 2000 a4 1.8t. if you have 2000 or 2001 a4 2.8 it could be done with no problems, plug and play. the others will require some wiring.

sweet thanks for the motivation "fastest", I talked to a guy at APR (one of the mechanics) and he seems to think it should be no problem maybe a little hassle but I'm up for the project! haha I will keep you guys posted in the process. And it is a 98 so I am guessing I will need to do some wiring but hard work pays off
