Advice needed. I put my car in for synchro rebuild and tech found an unusual condition
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/59196/img_0165.t.jpg"></center><p>Dan sent me these pics after he took apart the tranny. He said he's never seen anything like this
before. I've had the car over two years and never
had the fluid changed. Anybody know what this blue
gunk is ? And what possible problems it could create?
TIA

RedLine ShockProof Lightweight...
<img src="http://www.redlineoil.com/prdVarImg/86.jpg">
It frees up the rev's, but it's not designed for long use. I ran it for a long time, longer then I should have. I finally changed it when i realized it's not designed for synchro gear boxes.
But I've had no tranny issues (80k miles), so I'm not worried about long term affects. I ran teh lightweight from like 20k to 50k.

I bought the car at 33k miles and now it's almost 60k.
I don't know how long the previous owner had used
this fluid. Could there any long term effects ?

it doesn't offer the long term protection of a street car oriented fluid...
...it's designed to free up revs. Most certified fluid is designed to trap particles in the fluid and provide protection over duration.
I would imagine teh service interval of the Shockproof is much greater then that of regular MT90 or MTL RedLine fluid.
So where as I would change my MT90 every 25k miles, I'd probably change the Lightweight Shockproof every 5k. But this is just my guessing.
I'd have the mechanic do whatever work is necessary, and put in some Redline MT90 and be done with it.
Though while it's apart, it' be nice to clean up all the gears/shafts and the housing. But that's gonna be some labor I'm sure.

i still agree with myself, but I'd recommend running MT90 now having driven both...
...i didn't notice any apreciable loss in cold tempurature shifting with the MT90, and it provides more longevity.
