Default After the Infineon track event, we are thinkin about tossing the RS6 and picking up a nice B5...

The RS has been out for a few track days now, and we have concluded that it is a hog. It isnt bad on the track, but we are looking into something that might be a bit more agile. Just as a feeler, do you think it is wise to get a B5, then take it over to stasis to get their full motorsport treatment, high bias diff, then eventually full stage 3? It will not be a dedicated daily driver, but occasionally will be driven on the street, and it will def. see many more track days to come.

So, if you were in this position, what would you pick up as a "track car" with some mild daily driving duties? I cant help but to think of STi and Evo, but it has to be fairly refined, and all wheel drive of course. Figure a 40-50k total spending budget.

Default With a 40-50k spending budget for a track car, I'd get an Elise. Not all wheel drive but..

If you are serious about keeping the RS6 and getting another car for track duty and the occasional run around town, I think I'd rather have a nice Elise than deal with the potential headaches of a track-modified S4. This probably doesn't fit your criteria since it sounds like you want something refined (not so sure how refined a stage-3 full-Stasis car is going to be) and AWD but that's the direction I'd go.

Looking at your parent's/family car list, I'd get rid of the B6 S4 and do the B5. Keep the RS 6.

Default I was at Infineon and the RS6's just looked like boats to me on the track.

I have a B5S4 and it was my first event and man, I loved it. So much fun.

Default the more I look at the mod list, the more reasonable the price looks:)

The problem is most people who are looking for a S4 would not be familiar with the mod list and wouldn't understand the value of them until after they bought a cheaper car (without them) and took it to the track.

If someone went out and bought a '00 S4 they would pay around $20k. Have a typical stage 3 setup installed for ~$10k. Then install (track essential) suspension for $4k and big brakes for $2500. That's already ~$37k.. Then add lightweight racing seats for a few thousand..

Personally, I would not pay extra for the (heavy) audio equipment but you have enough other hardware like the RS4 bumper, CF hood, and extra RS4 engine pieces that make the price look *very* reasonable.
