Already STFA and Google but got conflicting reports.. does anyone know the actual drive train loss
factor on our cars. I've found a wide range of data from 18%-30% DTL. I think it is around 22% but then again If I was sure, I wouldn't be asking the question :P

Very unlikely you'd be able to nail down a single number. The condition of the
components, types of oils/greases used, temperature, viscosity, amount of load, rpm, will all contribute to the drivetrain losses. Probably other stuff as well. Change any of those factors and the results will change.
It's kind of like asking how much does the S4 weigh, there's a general number that's in the ballpark, but subject to variation due to differences in every car. There's a ballpark guess at DTL, but there isn't one number that you can apply to all cars under all conditions.

It's probably not as bad as the tuners make out. Most RWD cars have a "direct drive" gear that locks
the input shafts and output shafts together to give no gear reduction or multiplication. This is more efficient drivetrain wise since there are no gears working in the trans. This is the gear almost always used for dyno pulls on these cars. All the other gears have more drivetrain loss. The S4 has no such gear.
