Default Am I legally responsible for shop time due to misdiagnosis by my mechanic?

3 clutch installs, and it still might not even work properly. I wouldn't call it blatant misdiagnosis and incompetence, but should it really take 3 installs/uninstalls to figure out what the problem is? Anything I can do to protect myself? What are the legal terms here that dictate what I'm responsible for, and what the shop is responsible for?

Default Shops generally warranty their work and parts for 12mos/12k. Did you supply your own parts?

It can get a little sticky if you do since they can claim that it is the parts that you supplied.

Default I guess at this point, I'd ask the mechanic what was wrong with the parts you supplied.....

If he's claiming it was your parts it may get a little hairy.

If it's his install and the guy has any shread of integrity, he'd eat his labor costs, fix your car and say he's sorry.

Default If it were my defective parts, presumably there should be some reasonable

amount of labor that I might be charged for determining that it is indeed defective. However, if I'm charged ~40 hours of labor, it seems a little excessive.

Default 40 hours for 3 clutch installs?!

That's a LOT! Especially when there were problems. Tell him you'll pay half now and the other half never. It can get hairy when you bring your own parts, especially legally. If it were their parts (or they ordered them for you and you paid them) then you'd have more "legal" rights.

Default 40 is just a guess. This is the 4th time the tranny is going back in. And that doesn't

include time spent with the parts on the bench, testing, measuring, researching, etc.

This fvcking blows.

Customer supplied parts? If so, yes...you're on the hook.
