Any1 ever test the difference in braking distance between stoptechs

and stock brakes, brakeing from 70-0 etc..

there was a competition done by a magazine, i think stock had shortest braking distance.

davenew 04-08-2005 01:41 PM

I think the benefit of stoptechs only shows up after repeated heavy braking..

I remember that, too. It was a long time ago.

O.W. Kenobi 04-08-2005 01:45 PM

Bingo. No need for a BBK for the average street car.

I remeber reading up on it once a while back. If I recall...

The stock brakes where actually better in stopping distance than the Stoptechs. But of course that was just one stop I'm sure once the stoptechs have a little heat in them there would be no contest.

Dont take my word for it though I'm not as knowledgable as most here.

similar results in car mag comparison for R32..

ROUGHEDGESnomoreS4 04-08-2005 02:03 PM

a bbk will dissapate heat far better, therefore the bbk takes...

far more abuse to heat up to optimal braking. Its wont show in three back to back braking tests.

it's all about the pads, too.

On a street car with stoptechs, out of the box you're talking Axis Ultimate pads. They're not bad pads overall, sucky in the rain and not trackable because they would melt, but higher temp than the stock pads, which is why in a single stop you'll see better braking distances with the stock (grabby, hard to modulate, non-trackworthy) pads because the Axis Ultimates aren't hot enough.

I use the Axis Ultimates on the street, and Hawk Blue on the track - now that is an amazing pad once it's hot.

The point of a big brake kit is to dissipate heat. The point of pads and tires are to impact stopping (or braking, since it's not always to a stop) distance.

I would say stopping distance is much more controlled by the tire
