Anyone care to chime in...wouldn't ATP's GT28RS be a bit overkill for our cars?

wouldn't gt25's be a better application for our cars? I think gt28rs and gt25's use the same housing but not entirely sure. Just trying to find out what options I have...I kinda want to try something most people haven't done yet =)

Default I was thinking the same thing when that info first came out. But even GT25s will have...

increased lag over say a K04 application. I think the key is in the software they will be providing. That's why everyone is waiting to see what kind of torque curves are shown on the dyno graphs.

1st off, how many people have the GT28RS' and 2nd why would it be overkill? If you're looking to upgrade for performance reasons, I really can't see why it would be overkill. Unless there is a significant difference in the cost. If you ask me, either the GT25 or the GT28RS' is going to require some internal motor work, especially rods, but I like reliability.

Default It all depends on the power curve... Looking at GT28RS turbo map...

The turbo map of the standard GT28 combined with 1.35L is a bit scary ; if I'm not wrong, it would give a ghetto-***-kicking-style top-end at the cost of low-end. GT20 (yes, GT20... not even GT25) would be a better fit for spirited day-to-day driving. My S4 is my everyday car, my grocery getter, etc... It's a not a trailer queen track car.

I would be tempted to say that GT28RS would be overkill for normal city drive. For the highway or the 1/4 mile, it would be a nice solution. Anyway, let's see what those beast are capable of first before talking.

Default GT25R and GT28R use the same turbine and turbine housing, compressor side is different

GT28RS uses different turbine housing and turbine. I think it also uses a slightly bigger compressor wheel than the GT28R.

Default thats what i meant by overkill...no power until high rpms...as a daily driver I want low end. If I

lived in germany where i'd be driving on the autobahn...then that would be a little different.

id imagine we could get used to it though. problem is, we're used to breakneck torque down low.

Default a 2.7 turbo-less is usable as what you call a "grocery getter"

in case you wanna' hury up to get home you have the snails up there in the rpm range
