Anyone ever thought of tapping the line of the built in pressure sensor for a boost guage?

rather than cutting a line? Maybe it's just me being more ee oriented than car oriented, but it makes so much more sense to me.

I'm sure you could - but why?
You'd have to figure out what kind of signal it was (ie, voltage range, etc, etc) and adapt that to the voltages an electric gauge is expecting.
Much easier to tap a line

Better question is: Which "chip" vendor will be first with the Jim DeArras DIS/cluster boost gauge?
IIRC, Jim had the display part figgered out but he needed the ECU to send boost info over CAN in order to display it in the instrument cluster DIS area. Obviously Audi won't do it, but you'd think one of the "chip" vendors would....

Actually it's completely spelled out in the 2.7T training pdf.
it's a 0->5v signal where 2.5v = 1 ATM.
Heck.. given that.. you could use a DMM as a boost guage.

Hmm, actually, something isn't right...
The sensor on the TBB will only show you positive pressure, and not manifold pressure (since it can be negative in there when the TB is closed)
There must be another sensor somewhere, to read vacuum (if you want to display that as well)
