Anyone had any bad experiences with the clar bar?
I'm about to start the process, and wondering if anyone has screwed up their paint with the clay bar. I read the instructions on the Mother's kit, and it sounds pretty simple. Should I be concerned?

Works great as long as..............
you keep it well lubricated with the spray wash/solution recommended. Never use it dry or let the surface you are claying get dry or it will scratch. Also remember it is not a buffing cloth. Use lightly. Don't grind it into the paint. Turn and fold frequently, working the dirty surface into the center of the clay. Also always remember if you drop it toss it. Once it hits the ground it picks up all kinds of tiny particles and should be discarded.

According to Car Care Specialties web site....
....clay bar is:

CLAY: Literally a plasticene/abrasive mixture used to smooth new paint and remove over spray. This type of product must be used with lots of lubricant. The technique of using a clay is a learned skill. Use too little lubricant, or get contaminants in the clay, and you have moved into scratch city. This is one product that is the fast lane to trouble if not used with extreme care. I do not recommend this product as a general paint cleaner. You literally grind off a layer of paint. Should be used as was intended, to remove paint over spray.
As you can tell....Larry is not a huge fan of using clay bars to clean paint. I've used them for about 5-6 years now and love them.

I use the 3M bar and I dropped it in the driveway yesterday . . .
