Anyone interesting in a track outing in southern New England?...
I'm looking into renting the Speed Bowl, in Waterford, CT. It's a 1/3 mi. banked track. I only have preliminary information so far...
It's $200/hr, w/ a min of 3 hrs, or $600. I'm thinking if we could get 10 people, that's $60/person. If we do only 1 on the track at a time, that's 18 min/person. Maybe if we get creative, we can squeeze more in, like 30 min. of 0-60 runs, 3 on track at a time, etc. Think we could pull together 10 people?
They're accustomed to dealing with race cars. I'm going to see if I can convince them that for just a handful of road cars, and only 1 on track at a time, that they should charge less. I'm also going to see if they'd be willing to give a discount for doing it on a weekday, at a time when they'd otherwise wouldn't be making any $$ at all. What are people's preference for taking a day off mid-week vs. a weekend?
Obviously it's bring your own ride. If you don't have a car worth taking to a track, but can talk someone into letting you have some runs in his/hers, that's up to you. If we get more people chipping in, we can get more time.
Also, if a lot of non-owners are interested, I'd be willing to talk to the local Audi dealers to see if one of them would like to bring a demo for serious potential buyers. My salesman took me up to 120 on the test drive, on I-95, so this is not inconceivable. This part of the deal is a big can of worms, so I'll be looking for some help with it.
Waterford is about 30 min. southeast of Hartford, about 10 min. north of New London CT, and about 20 min northeast of Westerly, RI.

A definite maybe, given that there's no set date, cost, etc. Though I'm a complete beginner. I might also be able to convince two M3 owners at work to come along. They have a lot more experience.
I'm in Boston btw. Let me know.
