Anyone know how to tell build date of engine?

Default Anyone know how to tell build date of engine?
My 2001.5 S4 (build date of 10/00) has a ruined engine due to water intake and the insurance company has located an engine that they claim has low miles but they can't give me a serial number as the car has been parted out already. They gave me an engine code of "APB" which they tell me is for 2001 to 2003 S4. The turbos have the code D5DCW23. Does anyone know if these numbers are enough to date the engine or are there any other numbers that I can ask for?

Hmmmm, APB is correct for the S4, keep the old engine for parts, not all of it is bad.

APB is the correct engine code for a 2000-2002 B5 S4
