i have an '02. at 2000mi the gearbox still sucks. i always match revs when i downshift, but i acutally must double-clutch to get a smooth downshift into first gear.

i've had that UUC in the box for a couple months. i don't see how it would help the smoothness (or does it?).

as for the UUC.. it won't fix the problem. At best it won't make it worse..

Come to New Mexico and I will let you drive my truck. You have to let it warm up for 10 minutes in the winter just to get it out of reverse. Then, once you get it into first, you have to shift into seconed. So, you put both hands on the shifter and push as hard as you can. And MAYBE, just MAYBE it will slide into 2nd. Wanna hear about getting into 3rd?
The S4 gearbox isn't great, but it is a far cry from crap.

Even in auto-x you dont downshift into 1, basically EVER.

1 is for "from standstill" anyway.

Do you downshift into R to slow you down even further after you trashed your syncros on your 2-1 shift?
