AoA opinion of TBB problem (long)
Just got off the phone with one of the customer service reps at AoA. I expressed my concern about the TBB problem and the fact that I could not convince the dealer to even inspect it.
She told me that Audi is not currently tracking this problem and it is the first time she had even heard of it. I mentioned this board and other sites. I believe some people here have even called AoA about the problem. I understand this site is not sponsored by Audi or AoA but you would think they would at least consider it a good source of customer feedback.
The response: "We don't even know that the people who post things on these web sites even own an Audi". I happened to mention that at least one site (I think Audizone but did not mention the name) has documented the problem with pictures. Her reply was still that "Audi does not support or recognise these sites"
I have a message for Audi. I don't care whether you recognise these sites or not. What I care about is that you recognise known problems with your cars.
Why the heck would anyone spend time posting about a broken TBB if they didn't even own an S4/A6? What kind of thinking is that?
I mentioned that if I wanted to be certain my TBB was not broken I would need to check it myself. You can probably guess the answer, she recommended against that too.

Those folks are frontline GENERIC customer service
They sometimes are not brought up to speed. I do not call them for anything. They give generic answers to any question.
Work with your dealership...and the Audi Service Area Reps...they have the ability to make a difference.

you should see the service with Porsche. I got a call on my third week asking if i would like (m)
to bring the car in for any adjustments. they asked about my driving experience with the car and if their was anything that i would like to see in future models. everyone that i have talked to said that when they had to call Porsche of America that they were ready to bend over backwards to help them out... I am VERY supprised by this considering that audi, vw, and Porsche are of the same family of cars.
matthewk

Not true with Lexus. I love the S4 and have not had problem ex TBB -- but with 4years of a LS 400
ownership behind me they replaced the tires at 16,000 miles n/c and part of the leather trim all because I am very fussy and they wanted me happy. No arguments - dealer cooperation and advocacy + cappuccino in the waiting room.
They just don't make a comparable car to the S4 or the A4 for that matter.
Lexus is just great on service. Look at the JD Powers surveys and others.
I hold my breath hopeing NOT to have problems with the Audi -- I'm just preparing to pay myself if they won't do what I want.
Two friends who are not motorheads like me checked this aspect of ownership out and did buy the GS 400s

My experiance with Porsche was equally great. A long time ago I brought my new 911 in and the dealer
detected a slight noise in the engine. I had not noticed it (4000) miles. They tore down the engine and found an undersize wrist pin and completly redid the engine. I was in Toronto at a "factory" service dept -- they even put me up at a hotel at their cost. impressive!
