Default Audi are you listening? (I spoke to a lead tech at the local audi dealer today about the new S4)

The new tech basically repeated all the information that we have recently heard here on AW: due out next year with a 4.2 v8 with some rumors of possibly the 3.0 Twin turbo. Who knows - he probably heard most of his information here anyway but he re-enforced one key fact which was disturbing to me.

He said that the new S4 will all be automatics. He was pretty sure of it and said he heard it from the top and it was only logical since they have never hooked a 4.2 up with a manual. I am not sure if this is true or not.

I can tell you that my lease currently is up in 2004 on the current S4 and I had planned just lease the new S4. No Manual means I will probably keep my current one (upgrading to k04s) or look at BMW.

This is more a warning to Audi than anything else. I am done with S4's if they are all automatics.

Audi are you listening?

Default I just can't wait to see how they are going to stick the 4.2 in the engine bay.

They had to extend the nose of the A6 to fit it in there. Never mind the weight.. They could do a nice 3.0TT soft pressure again. Yummy!

ditto, now if there was an SMG and a manual option, audi would stomp BWM in sales imho

Default Doubt it. Ya know Bernd, new lead exec at VW/Audi? Father of the Z8, E39 M5, E46 M3...

I think Audi is going to really get serious about performance now... may take some time but this guys got the goods to really take Audi up in the daily driver performance arena. He and Piech(SP) of Porshce denomination will be an awesome combination.

You guys are all focused on engines for the S4. Why not focus on a more important topic like weight reduction? After all the new "light model" B6 A4 1.8t weighs approximately the same as the B5 S4. And then theres the little issue of having to have the latest thing out there. Love my ole B5... not sure what the next S will be like but will assess it in good time, esp as I enjoy my current auto.

Default S8 with 6-speed manual ...

.
0-100 km/h in 5.4 sec, and all the gears are well chosen. Top speed in 5th is 153 mph, 6th is for fuel economy with a theoretical 180 mph top speed.

Specs for the S8 w/ 6-speed manual
