Default Auto Xing a Tip S4... eh that doesnt EVEN sound right..

But I think we (Jenny my co-driver) are gonna do it anyway. The upgrades will put us in SM... no trophies but it should be fun.

Since completing the Ko3/Ko4 swap on the S4 we've been itchin to get the car in a controlled environment and 'toss it around' a bit. We are both avid AutoXer's with my GST but have never cAutoX'ed the S4 or any car with an AutoMatic before. THis is really just an opportunity to become more familiar with the cars abilties/limits.

Does anyone here forsee an 'issues' with that sort of environment and the Tiptronic. SHould I leave it in Drive or use the 'Tip mode'? 1-2. We just had the tranny fluid serviced. It has the 00032 code done. other mods below. Are there any 'tale tale' signs of an Unhappy transmission I should be looking out.listening for?

Oh yeah.. I have rear o2 sensor CEL (heater malfuction) I plan on replacing that sensor before the event. IN the meantime, how does that CEL affect the cars performance and fueling?

Thanks..

Default

I have half a dozen track weekends on my tip. No issues. I leave it in Tip mode.

Default one thing i notice with the 00032 recode that i've never seen documented on here....

on braking into slow speeds it will shift into gear ratio 1 earlier (at a higher speed...about 3mph or higher than with regular coding) then it normally did. This may be a factor in an EXTREMELY low speed corner (uncommmon even for autox). just thought i'd share.

unhappy automatics will slip (ie take a long time to change gears under heavy load and then slam you in)

Default FYI...If you heal-toe, you can get into first gear at any speed (within 1st gear's range).

At least you can with coding 00022, which is what I run. While braking, apply a slight bit of gas and then downshift. As long as there is throtle being applied, you can select first gear. ESP must be off.

Takes a bit of practice to get it smooth, but it can be quite fun.

Default heel toe in a tip? why not use the unused left foot? hehe

the pedal positions would make it difficult..in fact it'd be easier to do it backwards. anyway, the thing i noticed int eh above post was cautionary not a "feature"...since it can change unexpectedly in a turn from 2-1 at a speed that it didn't used to before teh recode....
your info is interesting though...very interesting...i'll have to try it soon...it'd be nice to leave a low speed corner at the right gear.

Default well....

It isn't <i>really</i> a heal-toe technique. I have tried left foot braking as well. It takes a while to develop the "touch" with the left foot. Since this is my first automatic, my heal-toe technique is more polished from years of manual trannies. If you do not want the downshift, don't apply the gas. It is useful when rolling a stop sign, or anticipating a traffic light change as you approach it, etc.

I rarely do it, but it is useful it the "need" arrises.

Default the issue i higlighted is not one when you are on the gas

but rathar slowing down going to a tight area, it goes to 1 all by itself without me tipping down ot 1...at a higher speed then stock setting. stock setting no matter what it will not downshift to 1 higher than about 2-4 mph unless you nail the gas. 00032 seems to go into 1 at about 5-7 mph when rolling to a stop or going around a corner(no gas applied)..at least in my car it does.

Can't say I notice that. Have you tried 00022?

Default I have never done the recode in my car but my car holds first gear if I downshift it into first...

This surprised many people at the last audi driving event i went to. One of my instructors who has a tip said he did recode and everything but it will shift out of first if he lets off throttle.

With my car at like auto xing type of things, i let it shift into second and then i downshift to first and leave it there. OR i can nail it in first and kinda let off so it doesn't redline, then it will stay in first.
