Automatic or Manual?

I hear more about 6 speed syncros, clutch problems when upgrading than anything else. Could be skewed by the population, but I'm going strong on about 30k miles of being stage 3 with zero trans issues (knocks on big piece of wood).

I was in your boat on this. I would have preferred a 6 speed, but the ones that were available had too many owners, too many mod's or just were beauty queens priced in the big bucks $$. I settled on the best I could find at my price range and it's a tip. It's not the end of the world and it has it's advantages, especially if you have kids. But yes, I would have rather had a manual if it was available.

I've owned both. A tip first, and a manual now. I tried justifying that I could build my tip to a stage 3 and beyond like Justin's friend but decided against it and finally I was coaxed into a 6 speed wb stg3 avant. (A GTR tranny and a B5 TIP tranny are lightyears apart just FYI) Best decision I could have made. The extra gear and the control you get with the 6 speed are worth the wait Bronco Joe. Plus you owe it to your kids to teach them how to drive a manual gearbox when the get old enough. Just my 2 cents from a former Tip owner
