What is the difference between torque sensing differential and Haldex system? Which is better and why? The TT 225 is the same price as the S4 but has the Haldex. Thanks

Re: For AWD experts
most people agree TORSEN is a better system AWD grip performance wise. TORSEN is a fulltime AWD that basically transfers power to the wheels with better traction, thereby optimizing your torque output to the proper wheels. Haldex is a lighter system more akin to FWD where the rear wheels are only driven if the fronts slip. i know that isn't the whole story, but i hope its a start. also...there are amny reasons for pricing.

That is pretty close,
The TT is pretty much a FWD vehicle until the front senses lose of traction, then all 4 engage, this happens in a matter of nanoseconds, so all in all they are pretty much the same in terms of traction, including off the line traction, if I pop the clutch you will feel the rear wheels spin, the same way yours would. For all intended purposes it is a full fledged quattro system, but since the TT is smaller it can not use the same TORSEN system since it does not have the space.
I would not put any real weight saying one system is better then the other. Of course I am a TT owner, and before this I had a 5000 Turbo Quattro, and that was a TORSEN system, there were NO diffrences felt as a driver.
