Why was the first RS4 not imported to the States ?
Price ? Emmisions ?
Just curious as I'm looking forward to the new B7 RS4 coming Stateside....

in order to sell a car in the us the motor / drivetrain has to be certified by the us gov.
this can cost millions of dollars and unfortunatly makes it next to impossible to get some cars here. its less about the car stinking too much (emmissions) and more about measuring how much it stinks and the whole certification process. this is the primary reason so many car manufactures make such good use of an engine design. take BMW for example, they use their 3.0 6 cyl in the 3 sedan, coupe, x3, x5, and 5 sedan. these are very different cars fitted with identical engines (performance pack excluded) for purly economic reasons.
also worth considering is the fact that 99% of americans wouldn't understand a go-fast wagon.

well that seems to be what the "new" RS4 will be anyhow...
regardless of what contenent you're on.
i want a twin turbo W8, (or whatever it takes to hit 450+ HP) 6 speed DSG, 4:1 torsen, 60% lsd's front and rear, recaro seats that a fat guy won't fit, REAL nav, and 265 tires all around...
oh, and so long as I'm making the wish list, a 50/50 weight balance would be nice too.
sound good to anyone else?

Since we're dreaming here :) I would like...
A twin sequential turbo 3.2 liter direct-injection v-6. 400 bhp is fine with me.
Quattro is fine but no stability control, like my '00 S4. I like the open diff front and rear for street driving.
Needs to be a coupe version of the B7 A4. A 7-speed dual clutch gearbox would be nice with several shift programs (use depends on what mood I am in).
The car needs to have decent rubber and at least Bilstein shocks. Brembo brakes in front.
Oh yea, the car needs to be $50k or less. Otherwise, forget it. It's to much money for a car after that, becomes a **** poor use of money.
