Blue smoke from exhaust upon starting
On occassion, my '01 S4 emits a puff of blue smoke from the exhaust when started cold. Should it be a big concern? Car is stock with 48,000 miles on it. Dealer said they found nothing wrong during recent visit. Car has been babied and runs Mobil 5/30.

Oil burning; valve stem oil seals is a typical source for such a leak. The oil gets into
the cylinders via leaking past the seals while engine is off or under high vacuum conditions. Once the engine is up to operating temp., the leak is usually so minor as to be not noticeable. This will not get any better with age; likely to worsen over time. (I've seen this on other cars, but not the S4 so far.) Not quite sure what a dealer would do under warranty or how to identify the cause with a high degree of certainty. Maybe someone else will help out with an idea...good luck!
