BMW Driver's school at Lime Rock (long)
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/25768/dscn0209.jpg"></center><p>First off, thanks for giving me a hand with the brake wear sensor.
Per Doc Slow's request, my story : )
Got there early (6:45) just after the gates opened up to get a good spot so I wasn't sitting out in the grass. Cloudy and chilly for most of the day.
Four ten lap track sessions, since the BMW club lets everyone into the club despite what kind of car you drive there is quite a mix of cars - including some Porsche cup cars. The Porsche club guys come run at the track and volunteer as instructors.
Highlight of the day however, was a session with John Berger in his 580HP Lingenfelter Z06 Corvette. Aluminum block 427, sparco seats, 5 point harnesses, the works. John drove this car in the Cannonball One Lap of America last year.
The race director asked me if I was interested in a session out on the track with one of the instructors. I was like sure! You want to go fast? Steve walks over to Johns car and says take this guy for a 10/10ths ride.
I get into the car and and get set up with the harness and the chatterbox. We get out into the grid with the instructor run group and we're released.
First an easy warmup lap, then 160 down the main straight, hard into the harnesses going into big bend (exhaust barks on the downshift) and helmet slams against the seatback accelerating into the esses, we're drifting around the left hander, slam right I'm hanging on the the door handle and everything goes into a blur going into no name straight. Hard against the harnesses again and drifting left going into the uphill... we're going to hit the flag station I think.. up over the hill and the entire car unweights at the crest, we land and I'm pinned to the seat again as we're going flat out again to west bend. Drifting right I'm still hanging on as we go into the downhill and out onto main straight again. We went for 8 or 9 laps before we started to get some serious brake fade and went into big bend a little too hot.
My arm was sore yesterday from hanging on. What a ride though! Wow. Never gone that fast around that track.
So that's about it - Audi content above (cooling off!) and the pics of John's Corvette and some other pics of the track are in my picture poster.
