Default Brake fluid around the reservoir and a few drips under the car after changing pads. ? inside:

Changed my front pads just now (stock brakes). After I finished the last side, I noticed some fluid drips under the car...brake fluid. Removed the plastic cover that hides the reservoir and saw some fluid around the top, and a drizzle trail down underneath it.

I'm assuming when I pushed the pistons in, it forced some fluid up and out of the reservoir. It's still filled to the max line and doesn't appear to be still dripping. STFA'ing showed that others have done this before.

Clean up question...I know brake fluid is highly corrosive. I wiped aroud under the reservoir as best as possible. Anything else I should be worried about, particularly the nether-regions under the car from where the drips were coming?

Thanks! This was the first pad change by myself and the clean up has me concerned. But hey, the rest was easy!

Default Did you "top off" the brake fluid between pad changes?

If so, then you most likely did push some out of the reservoir with the new pad install. That's why I don't add fluid as the pads wear. Anyway, if this is what happened then you have no worries, just try to get all the spillage cleaned up asap. If its been on any painted surfaces for any length of time, it will probably cause the paint to lift.

Default When I originally put on the pads that I took off today, I flushed/changed the brake fluid.

But today I took off the Hawks and put my OEM ones back on and didn't touch the fluid this time.

Thanks for your response.

i'd rinse off the area as well, which should help with whereever it dripped to.

Can you pour water under there? Seems so close to the battery terminals, firewall/dash.

Default The ECU box is sealed so you can hit that area with a hose.

I'd try to avoid soaking the battery itself, but it shouldn't be an issue.

also, for next time, if you open the resevoir cap, the pistons will be easier to compress.
