Brakes engaging late in the pedal travel.

Since I've owned my S4 (5 months), I've felt that the brakes were engaging really late in the pedal travel. I've recently redone the brakes with powerslots, hawk pads and braided steel brake lines on all 4 corners and nothing changed. I'll press on the pedal and for what seems like the first 2-3inches of travel nothing happens (car doesn't slow, no back pressure on pedal). After that though things firm up quickly. Yet the brake lights engage and cruise control disengages with just a tap on the pedal. Is there an adjustment for the pedal travel like there is on the clutch? Or is it possibly something more serious?

Maybe it just needs to be bleed out a little bit

Weird. I had the same problem and I'm currently redoing my brakes.

Currently trying to solve the same problem. I'm doing SS lines, Hawk pads, slotted rotors and I've had my S for 5 months too. Strange. The only thing I could think for the problem, if you've done everything else, is to bleed the brakes again. Bleeding properly is tricky and has to be done just so to get all air and air-contaminated fluid out of the system. Old fluid can also hides in your ABS control unit and needs a VAG-COM to be flushed out. I'll let you know if I figure out a solution.

I just drove a urs4 that had the same problem and it ended up being one of the rear calipers .......

piston was not clocked back in right. He had this for years since it was hard to find, find someone with a rear brake tool and have them check.

There is still air in the system, gotta bleed your brakes again..

try using a power bleeder make sure u bleed from all 4 corners and all bleeding points.

I had this same problem when I just replaced my entire brake system.

I'm going to drop it by the stealership tomorrow to see what they figure out.

I'll let you know what happens.
