Default Busted...

Hey guys... check this one out. I got a K40 UN3000SWL stealthy radar detector installed yesterday, and today, not 24 hours after I picked the system up, I got a speeding ticket. The "instant on" detector beat my reflexes... I might have been able to beat it if I was perceptive enough, but after first beep, the system went crazy and I mashed my foot down on the brake by then. If that wasn't an admission to guilt, I don't know what is. So I drove away from the scene with a 70/55 ticket. Sure, K40 will pay for it, but they won't cover the monthly increase in my insurance. The way I see it, it's worth my time trying to get this ticket off the record to keep my insurance fees down. I'm sure most of us have gotten tickets before, but this is my second one in two months! The first one was the reason I installed the K40 in the first place! Anyhow, does anyone know the best way to get out of a ticket? I've heard a lot about rescheduling the court date to a day the sheriff/officer is off duty for a guaranteed dismissal, but something about that just wouldn't everybody do that if it was that easy? Any other tips for avoiding speeding tickets in these situations? I wish the sheriff would have had laser, because I've got the "defuser" installed that will CONfuse his laser gun if he tries to get a reading! I just can't imagine how a person could beat an instant-on system.

Default Some tips...

1) That moving the date thing only works in states where they don't have designated representatives of the police. Lots of states the cop that ticketed you isn't the one that has to show up

2) Don't speed if there's not other traffic to tease a cop into showing themselves with instant on to pick up. I can usually pick them out from a mile or two away with the V1 as long as there is other traffic

3) Diffusers don't work.

4) Don't volunteer to lead the pack during any audi road trips -- thats how I got my last one, 90 in a 65

Default Blow up the police station? Kill the judge? Scare the cop....

maybe face up and don't weasel out of a ticket. Here's a tip on avoiding speeding tickets: SLOW DOWN.

Default I DISagree...ALWAYS weasel! You obviously don't have an S4 (more)...

because if you did, you'd know that not speeding is not an option! :-)

Default Fight it!

If the cop is chicken enough to hide and use stealthy tactics to nick speeders, we have our right to fully test the legal system. Go to court and fight the damn thing. It's your right to demand the prosecution to present you with full evidence. If the cop doesn't bother to show up or if the prosecuting attorney makes a dumb mistake, you are free.

FYST - Fight Your Speeding Tickets

Default According to a recent magazine test your defuser actually increased the laser range.

I don't recall which magazine it was, but they pretty much said they either don't help, or they will help the officer by increasing his range.

I guess the bottom line is, don't believe every advertisment you read.

Default Careful...

Don't know where you're located but in my local court, if you put up a defense and lose you pay stiff fines for wasting the courts time so you would want to check before even attempting to fight it.

The only time I beat a radar ticket, I had a witness who stated that there were cars all around us and it was a sharp curve. The judge pro-tem thought this was reasonable and dismissed it but I was REALLY lucky.

Another time, I had a flimsy defense but the officer didn't show. I got out of it, but another time I was the ONLY guy the officer showed for! It's a crap shoot.

I tried to talk myself out of a speeding ticket the other day and failed, but at least he didn't walk around to the front of my car and give me a ticket for no front plates! First S4 ticket and I can do traffic school, but I'm sure it won't be my last. Surprisingly, even though he got me on radar, he said he could really hear my exhaust sound as I zoomed away from the light (longer story). I have a totally stock system!

If you get put on assigned risk, those cheesy insurance companies (Survival etc) are alot cheaper than trying to stay with something like State Farm.

Also, the agent will rarely check your record unless you change something about your insurance, so don't call him or buy another car or anything if you don't want to get dumped, until at least one of them is off your record.

Hope some of this helps.

Default Beating a ticket in court

Though some people get lucky and get their case thrown out because the officer doesn't show, most people hire a local lawyer with good connections to beat it.

First, the lawyer will get all the paperwork on the radar gun, and if lucky he will find some technicality, like gun wasn't calibrated recently enough, or the officer that calibrated the gun didn't have the right certification. If that doesn't work, the lawyer will talk to the prosecutor and try to work something out. Much better chance of beating it with a lawyer, than on your own.
