caliper painting question: when to apply decal? clear coat? Clear coat choices?
Hey All,
I know there's a lot of info on painting calipers in general in the archive (I think I saw it all), but I don't see clear instructions as to when to apply the decal and when to do the clear coat. So - using G2, it says to cure for 2 hours, and not drive for 24. Is it OK to apply the decal after 2 or should I wait 24? If it's OK to apply after 2 hours, when should i do clear coat? On the topic of clear coat: clear engine enamel, right? Anyone have a specific one they used they were happy with? TIA, Per |
I would wait a few more hours...
Not so much because the G2 hasn't cured, because it will be pretty well set in two hours... But because you should clean the caliper before applying the decal and that might not be best if done before the G2 really cures.
As far as the clear, I used Duli-Color Hi-Temp (1000 degree) clear engine enamel. There is more info on this if you click the last link in my sig.. |
thanks...thoughts on when to apply clear coat?
..guessing after decal is on it'd be fine to go ahead with it?

Where did you get the decals?
I tried ordering from the ebay guy(the only one who sells them on ebay), and he never sent them to me. Same thing happened to a friend of mine. I think his name is Rich Calnon. I'm just looking for a decent place to get calip. decals.
Thanks |
i got 'em a long time ago..what's the email of the ebay guy?
i'll look for the contact info for the one i bought it from and we can see if it's the same one.

I used just regular clear coat (the one that came with the Audi touch up paint). It's held up for 3
years now.
You don't really need any special clear coat. But if it makes you happy, go for it. |
cool...good to know! thx.

True that...
