stories like this ( Car wont start at all for unknown reason-which occur every now and then on the forums) make me really wonder about my car. I have not had any issues like this yet , but what if one day I did on the way to vegas, or to work...

well it sounds like you found the culprit though, if retightening those wires down allowed you to start finally, it must be related to those wires

I don't know if this was the same problem as the original poster, but I had a similar issue and figured I'd share what I found.

I came home from work tonight, car has been running great. went in the house for something and when I came back out the car was totally dead, like someone flipped a switch. No lights, no dash, my key fob didn't work, nothing.

This is what it was:

The positive battery post has a secondary hook-up that runs through the fire wall to power the fuse panel, etc. This secondary hook-up has a 150 amp fused link that had a crack and was over heating...

I hope that helps someone out when searching in the future.

I made an account here just to say thank you so much for showing this 150A fuse on the battery, i proly would have found it sooner or later but i put a few hours into looking at what it could be. and since its my first audi i didnt know any common issues. this saved my day. so thank you sincerely for this.

What is the fuse number that controls the battery gauge?
