Default if you go to sears, you can get the ones that reverse...

to either compress the clip or expand it. because you'll need both.

Default you "need" both

the circlip on the shaft needs to be spread-out. The circlip on the base needs to be squeezed-in. The one on the shaft you could open with other pliers, but the one at the base you need the right tool, or at least it will make it a lot easier.

Default I just bought some today for the shifter circlip!!!

but some that are both internal and external. cost me $13 for a nice pair (don't go cheap w/ tools, then they'll last a lifetime
