Clair Audi service - update!
A while back, I posted an angry message about Clair's service department, and their service manager, Tom Shanahan. I had brought in my '00 S4 for a warranty repair in February 2001 - the first-gear synchros failed, a known and documented problem on the first run of '00 models. Clair had told me to rent a car during the repair period, and that they would reimburse me, but as of my last post, they hadn't.
Well, I got the check now, so it's only right that I let everyone know it's resolved. In fairness to Clair, I may have been a little harsh in my earlier post.
Truth is, the original repair was started only four weeks after I brought the car in, and the actual installation took less than three additional weeks. And they returned well over 10% of my phone calls asking for status updates - sometimes with highly specific details, such as estimated order-of-magnitude dates. Truth is, my frustration aside, Clair took repair service to new lengths. I would never have received this level of promptness, attention and followup at any other dealer.
As for the reimbursement check: Getting the money took well under three dozen calls to Tom, and only two interventions by the owner. When I received the check today, *many* hours remained before the one-year anniversary of my repair.
So all in all, I must confess, I can't even express how happy I have been with Clair. If someone asked me what Boston-area dealer to get serviced at, I couldn't recommend Clair highly enough.

would you have been given the service & refund...
if you were not as diligent about it?
yes, they came through. but it seems like these days with dealers, if you don't continually badger them to do what's right they will try and give it to you up the a$$ without thinking twice.
maybe i'm just biased.

Ah, I'll add my own positive opinion then, too!
I loved their service department.
They always did a great job taking a month and a half to get me an appointment.
It was especially good when I'd bring my car in, lose half a day at work, and have everything not fixed to a quality only a dealer of that caliber could attain.
I especially loved when they decided it would be a good idea to put 15w50 oil in my car -- the turbos screamed their thanks to me every time I drove the car until I traded it in. I'm sure they're screaming their thanks to someone else still!
Oh yeah, and best of all I especially loved how they treated a returning customer by lowballing me by $5000 on the value of my trade in.
I'll definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to get the equal service!

Dan quit? Nice guy, but I didn't buy my car from him. Two friends did though.
My sales guy was good there too, but he did promise he'd send me an Audi fleece and I never got it. ;-)
