Default Clearing DTC 17965 while driving...

Well I finally got my ****ty company to buy me another laptop battery and was able to do some testing on my "safe/limp mode" issue with my 02' S4.

Here is what transpired:

1) Cleared DTC 17965
2) Warmed up car with grandma style precision.
3) Pulled over and checked Vag for DTC. None...good.
4) Drove spiritedly WOT all the way up to 5th until max boost in each gear. Something like 1.25 bar or something. My gauge has it recorded and so does my vag.

* Limp mode ensued...Could not get past .5 bar after

5) Checked fault codes (while driving slowly) and clear DTC 17965 again.

6) In 3rd gear @ 35mph I punched it and was able to go above .5bar all the way into 6th at 60mph.

* Then again I go into limp mode and the car does not produce pressure above .5 bar.

7) Cleared DTC again while driving and tried it again.

Any comments? Does it sound like a leak or something like a sensor somewhere?

Only running a GIAC-X and this has been happening with the stock ECU also (adjust boost levels with stock

Thanks,

GigaEnvy

Sounds like you may have a bad N75 valve.....

Default YES! I thought so originally after searching archives and having other non-conclusive responses.

I tried adjusting the screw but it only turns 1/4 turn. Seemed like there was a change smoothness but I still got the DTC and limp mode status. It still looks brand new but I guess the electronic portion is caput. I also verified any lines running from the valve were not crimped, loose, or punctured. All in all for an 02' w/ 9.2k it looks brandnew still.

Will let you know in a couple hundred miles once I bring my car in for its 10K.

Thanks again!

Default You can check your N75 with the VAG....

Also, does your actual and requested boost look like?

Default Requested and Actual get really distorted when I go limp...

I have the .csv's saved obviously but they're on my laptop for the time being. I'm going to putz around with graphing it out when I go watch DVD later.

So how do I check N75 without going into Output Settings?

One measuring block logs wastegate duty cycle. Don't have VAG w/ me. Check the label file.

Default N75==wastegate controller. logging duty cycle would tell you what N75 is doing. I could be wrong.

I've only logged it once. I think it was group 031.

Somebody else could probably tell you authoritatively. Otherwise, you can wait till I get home tonight.

Ok, I checked VAG-COM. Wastegate duty cycle is under block 114.
