Default Clunk on braking and acceleration after swapping summer wheels on...

I had my summer wheels mounted up last night, usually I do it myself, but since I was at the tire place[1] anyway, I let them do it. Now when I brake or accelerate, I hear a clunk, it seems like maybe one of the wheels isn't torqued correctly. I retorqued them with my torque wrench this morning, but it still happens.

Any thoughts?

Default I've heard that if you forcibly rotate one of the wheels during a wheel change, that it screws up

the Quattro system. But I remember reading that there's a few clunks and it's back to normal. No idea why it would continue for you.

Default I met your roommate last week....

I stopped by Eurotech to see what kind of stuff they do.

btw - If I meet up with you on 94 again the result might be a bit different

Default Yeah, I'm afraid to push on the go fast pedal now....

This clunk has me worried. Plus one of my SSR Comps is out of round, so I'm waiting for a new one. Blah.

The Yoko A032R's I mounted up are wicked though! I can't wait to push on them this year.

Do you AutoX at all?

Default Actually I'm going to start this summer...

I signed up for the scca auto-x school in 2 weeks - hopefully over the summer I'll get to run in a few events as well as some track events.

Where did you get your tires mounted? I don't know who to trust in AA, last time Firestone charged me $25 per corner.

Default Do you have centering rings?

for non-hub centric wheels. Do you have a missing one or is one stuck on the hub when it should have been removed with the wheel swap?

Or is there something in your trunk? :-P

I'm going to take the wheels off this evening and check on the hubcentric rings... That's my guess at this point too.

I did check the trunk though... Thanks!

Default Re: Actually I'm going to start this summer...

I went to Discount tire on Stadium.... Here's the outcome:

They broke one of my MACHINED ALUMINUM CENTER CAPS... The manager was great, and told me he'd order mew a new one before I even asked for it. I was happy until I talked to the guy who broke it who tried to tell me that my centercap was broken before they got it, but that they couldn't prove it so they had to buy a new one. Whatever.

They charged me $120 to mount 4 tires, and $20 more to road force balance them!!! I called before hand and they quoted me $5/mount and $8/balance. When I questioned it, they said "You didn't tell us they were low profile..." I'm not so pleased by what they charged me.

They found one of my comps to be out of round, so I'm buying a new one from them cheaper than I could have gotten it from Tirerack. So I guess I'm happy about that.

This clunk I've developed... I'm worried about.
