Clutch install

Well I think i am going to do a clutch because when I was installing my AWE downpipes I noticed oil residue at the bottom of where the motor and tranny meet. Thus I'm guessing its the rear main seal, so I got a light weight flywheel, have yet to decide on a clutch, and am going to order a rear main seal of course. I was wondering weather i should pull the whole motor or just the transmission, also if are there any other seals/gaskets I should do at this time. Lastly, I do have to pull the motor I am most likely going to go to ko4's, and do the timing belt at the same time. what your guys' opinion for those who have done this themselves.

easier to just take the trans out,

Now, if you just want an excuse to go stage 3, then I would pull the motor and call it a day, but if you're just doing the clutch than just yanking the trans is not a bad job at all, even on your back on jack stands.

Having a trans jack adapter for my floor jack did help out quite a bit though. You can find them for like $40.

There's a few write ups floating around for trans R&R that'll help. Bentley is pretty good as well.

how high do you need to lift the car to do it on jack stands?

As high as they go? :P I pulled transexual for mine. Get a trans jack-adapter to help.

everyone says yank the whole thing, my just tranny yank was a pita! enjoy!

Yeah. There are 4 or 5 tranny bolts that will have you scratching your head. Just use two elbows

on the ratchet. Buy an extra elbow or two, you're going to break one. :D

Otherwise, no big deal. Check the tech section for the DP removal. It has valuable information to get you started.

Also, you need triple square tools to do this job... source those before you start. I spent 3 hours roaming the city for them right in the middle of it all... sucked.

Hopefully I won't find any transexuals under mine. Didn't know you swung that way.

Subjectively I would say tranny-only is a bit easier, but not much. Quicker, yes. If you're....

...close to going stage 3 anyway I would wait until then. Don't forget motor mounts, cam seals, valve cover gaskets, etc while motor is out.

screw those, the dp bolts and upper flywheel bolts were way worse imo! not to mention cv axle bolts

etc
