Drive the 2 and buy the one you like.
I thought the S4 is more fun to drive than the A4. I was actually going to to buy an A6 2.7t, but the S4 was more fun to drive than it as well.

I had both the 1.8T and 2.8 before the S4 - I regret the wasted time !
1.8T was fun turbo car but sucked when more than one person. No Torque
2.8 had lots of low-end Torque, even when fully occupied, but missing the turbo zing.
S4 was better than both.

had a A4
01 sport, I switched to the S4 because it has more modding potential for the money. At the time I switched to the s4 people were putting Ko4 kits in A4's= 240hp, still 10 hp down from a stock S4, Just chipping a S4 puts it 60hp plus beyond the ko4'd a4. I liked the fact that a4 was a lighter car but that was the only advantage the car had, 1st gear was so short.

Yeah - But I'm looking at both - please read
Ok. . .
So if its unfare. The vehichle will be used in the New England area, must have quattro, must have heated seats, and will be used mostly for work commute, but also the only primary car.
I like the A4 for its gas milege and lower emissions, but I like the S4 for the 6sp and 2.7TT.
I'm torn.

You'll find that most poeple here, including myself...
...stated with 1.8Ts, and moved to 2.7Ts. For me, it was a no brainer. Becuase I can't have a manual transmission in my daily driver, and to make any real horsepower with a 1.8T one needs a big turbo kit such as the APR Stage III, (now III+ which makes something like 340 horse), the option was not available to me. I upgraded, and never looked back. If I could drive a manual for more than a couple hours without pain, I may have stayed in the 1.8T and a big turbo kit, but now, having owned the S4, I can say that it is an entirely different car, and the decision should be based on more than just performance alone.
