Considering trading my '01 225 TT for a '01 S4, opinions/questions.
I much prefer the uniqueness of the TT but the performance of the S4 is awesome. I have just chipped my TT and am pleased with the performace. However, a chipped S4 realizes much larger gains than my TT did.
I have driven a chipped S4, but as others have commented it didn't SEEM really fast. Was that just my inexpereince with driving it? Overall, how pleased are you with your S4.
Finally, how do you think resale will be effected by the launch of the new A4's and eventually S4's?
Thanks
Brandon

go for it.
I owned a 180FWD for two years, test drove the 225Q and currently own an S4. Based on comments I received when I posed a similar question and on personal experience:
- engine: S4 is much better. no comparison chipped or unchipped
- handling: TT is more nimble and has much less body roll
- overall value: S4, it could be your only car for many, many uses... and excels at most of them.
- chassis: S4, feels much more solid, but TT was no slouch here
- build quality: S4, I've had no prob so far vs. the many issues with the TT.
- design: TT, no comment necessary.
- controls: TT's radio/AC could be used by feel alone, the S4's are nice but there is no tactile feel to the smooth rows of buttons.
Hope this helps.

Depends on what you like in a car.
S4 / TT
----------------
Speed / Agility
Stealth / Attention
Class / Cool
Practical / Playful
Buy Value / Sell Value
Safety / Whimsy
Party / Intimate
Lumber / Golf clubs
Engineer / Designer
I own an S4 and I really like it. It is an incredibly competent car, on or off the track. But if you are a true TT person who values design and getting noticed, you will not be happy with one.

also the reason it doesn't feel as fast is....
primarily due to i) incredible engine smoothness and ii) the chassis rigidity. Again, the TT has a smooth engine and strong platform, but the S4 has a distinct edge in these areas, especially at higher speeds.

I have both...
The S4 is a better car. It took me a year to determine that. It is faster, seems to do better on a race track - yes I am suprised too.
TT has better brakes (mostly due to its weight). I do not like the Haldex on the TT but I like the Torsen. I believe that resale value will hold on the TT better though.

I did this, I bought my TT back at a loss of around $8K...
I traded my '01 225 TTQC in for an '01 S4 because I felt I didn't really fit well in the TT and because I really enjoyed the S4's straight line acceleration.
But after a few weeks of ownership, I found myself missing my TT terribly. The S4 is a great car, but unless you modify its shocks and springs it will never let you forget just how heavy a car it is in terms of dive when braking, rise when accelerating and much more of a plow into turns as compared to the TT.
The question that can best answer this is what experience you are shooting for.
If you are like I was and are completely enamoured of your TT - including all the little things like the Playskool seat heater *****, the interior design, the exterior, the feel in curves, etc., the S4 may be a disappointment.
However, if you want a stealthy sedan that is much quicker than a TT off the line, the S4 may be the car for you.
The bottom line:
The TT is a Sports Coupe.
The S4 is a Sports Sedan.
Each has its benefits and tradeoffs; you need to decide which will float your boat (and hopefully
won't make the wrong decision like I did and lose a fair chunk of change, but at least I know I'm in the right car now...)
