coolant temp sensor replacement:)
I just replaced the sensor and cleared the code. This is the four pin coolant sensor located beneath the MAF.
1) Remove MAF and accordian hose. I remove them as an assembly.
2) Remove coolant tank cap to relieve coolant system pressure and reinstall cap, to prevent spillage at sensor when you remove it. If you leave the cap off, the system will have a vent and coolant will gush out when you remove the sensor.
3) Stuff rag below coolant sensor area. Pull plastic coolant sensor retaining C-clip to the rear of car until it comes out..and wiggle connector around while pulling gently upward, until sensor comes out. Detach harness connector from old sensor.
4) Use scribe to remove old oring from sensor mounting hole.
5) Use lint free rag to clean grit from sensor mounting hole.
6) Carefully install new O-ring into sensor mounting hole.
7) Loosen coolant tank cap (relieves vacuum) for a second or so, until sensor hole fills with coolant. Yea, some of it soaked into the lint free rag you used earlier. This prevents a pocket of air being trapped below the sensor.
8) Install new sensor with flat part of connector to passenger side of the car. That way the harness connector will connect without the need for much rotation.
9) Press down gently on new sensor while sliding new plastic C-clip into slot. It holds the sensor in place. Reconnect harness connector to sensor. Remove the coolant catching rag.
10) Reinstall MAF.
11) Check clock: If it took you more than 10 minutes you obviously have ADD!
